Louise Crouchet Higgins brings to Irpino, Avin & Hawkins Law Firm a respected reputation as a fighter for human rights and justice. Since joining us in 2009, Louise has concentrated on solving complex personal injury cases.
Born in the Crescent City, Louise received the annual Outstanding Student in Business award twice while an undergraduate at Our Lady of Holy Cross College (OLHCC). Her undergraduate career was filled with other honors: She a member of Sigma Beta Delta, the National Honor Society in Business, Management and Administration; and Kappa Gamma Pi, the National Catholic Graduate Honor Society. While earning her degree in management, she was awarded the Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key, given to the graduating student from the College of Business Administration who holds the highest grade point average. She was rewarded as the Outstanding Student in the Division of Applied Sciences.
Louise received her law degree from Loyola University New Orleans, College of Law, where she received invitations to join the Maritime Law Journal, the Journal of Public Interest Law, and the Law and Technology Journal. Louise participated in Street Law, a course of study that brings practical application of the law to high school students, focusing on a school for students with learning differences. In her final year of law school, Louise served as a law clerk with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration Customs and Enforcement.

Louise began her legal career at the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Federal Circuit, where as a case manager, she handled 2,500 cases annually, concentrating on all aspects of the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure. Louise’s extensive experience while at the Fifth Circuit included cases involving the former Immigration and Naturalization Service, the United States Tax Court, National Labor Relations Board, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Communications Commission, Federal Aviation Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Benefits Review Board. Former Chief Judge Henry A. Politz honored Louise’s exceptional performance in the Fifth Circuit with a Special Services Award.
Like everyone at Irpino, Avin & Hawkins Law Firm, Louise has been inspired and determined to rebuild New Orleans better than ever. In 2007, Louise received the Gillis Long Poverty Law Center Award in recognition of her efforts to rescue and save homeless animals after Hurricane Katrina. This award is presented to members of the law community who exemplify service to those in need outside of a normal workday.
Louise is married to Stephen Higgins, a successful Certified Public Accountant who maintains a sole practice in the metro New Orleans area. They have one fabulous child, Conner.
Louise is admitted to practice before all Louisiana state and federal courts as well as the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of several organizations including the American Bar Association, the National Association of Women Lawyers, the Association of Women Attorneys, Louisiana State Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association, and the Jefferson Bar Association.
