Irpino, Avin & Hawkins is an independent, full-service law firm with a home office in New Orleans, Louisiana. The firm has been involved in multi-district cases for more than 20 years, with a specialty that focuses on privilege and confidentiality issues in national cases. Our objective is to make a real difference in clients’ lives and offer significant help to those who have been injured. By offering legal advice, support and representation, we can help clients pursue compensation for injuries.
Our Multi-District Litigation Experience
Necrotizing Enterocolitis (“NEC”) Injuries – Irpino, Avin & Hawkins is pursuing Enfamil and Similac baby formula lawsuits for premature babies who suffered necrotizing enterocolitis (“NEC”). Recent science, including government back studies, suggest that cow’s milk-based formulas put premature babies at a higher risk of developing NEC. Attorney Pearl Robertson is on the leadership committee for the MDL centralized in the Northern District of Illinois. Trials are currently set in the MDL case, and we expect the sitting Judge to continue to handle cases filed in Federal Court.
Camp Lejuene – Contaminated Water ExposureWe are presently accepting potential cases related to water contamination exposure at the Camp Lejuene Marine Corps Base Camp in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Recently, the Government passed the Camp Lejeune Justice Act permitting lawsuits to go forward on the behalf of service members, their families, and civilian workers for those exposed to contaminated water from two of the eight wells at the North Carolina Base.
Opioid Litigation – The Opioid Litigation was first consolidated into an MDL in 2017. Since that time, Anthony Irpino and Pearl Robertson have been active contributors to the MDL litigation, including participation in the areas of privilege, confidentiality, depositions, law and briefing, and on certain Trial Teams. Further, Irpino and Robertson have worked with and for a number of State AG’s in their pursuit of abatement remedies for the public nuisance caused by defendants. While many of the defendants in these cases have settled, Irpino and Robertson remain active in MDL 2804.
Insulin Price Fixing Litigation - This is an active case brought by self-funded payers (entities who offer health benefits to members) against manufacturers of Insulin medications and Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs). The case is already part of a centralized MDL Action, titled Inre:InsulinPriceFixing Litigation and assigned to Judge Martinotti in the District of New Jersey. Partner, Pearl Robertson, is a member of the PSC and actively involved in the discovery and pretrial matters for the MDL. Irpino, Avin and Hawkisn Law Firm presently represents several self-funded payer entities and is actively signing up cases.
